“Normally, things come already dead. You go to the supermarket and they give you everything dead. ... One has to have a lot of imagination—and I lack it—to tremble in the face of death while opening a can of meatballs at home in the kitchen.”
- Rodrigo García
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Rodrigo García worked as a butcher before forming his own theater company, La Carnicería Teatro. Now based in Asturias, Spain, García has presented his work at the Festival d’Avignon, and throughout Europe, Asia, and South America. Known for his dramatic deconstructions of consumer culture in the industrialized world, García brings audiences a startling new perspective on the power of human instinct inACCIDENS. This raw, intimate encounter allows audiences to hear, see, smell, and almost taste García’s message. ACCIDENS is a duet between a man and a lobster that tests the limits of art as a political tool and asks audiences to question the increasingly artificial quality of the food we eat.
Running time for ACCIDENS includes a thirty-minute moderated post-show discussion.
