“Beyond Matter – Part 2″  will feature the work of Daniel Fielder, DeborahKapoor, Frank Lavelle, Jeannie Pearce and Nicholas Schutsky.

Nora Lawrence, Curatorial Assistant at the Museum of Modern Art, New York City, selected eleven artists to be exhibited in  “Beyond Matter -Part I & II”.  Ms. Lawrence reviewed a pool of ninety University of Delaware Master of Fine Arts alumni to curate the exhibitions.  Ms. Lawrence explained her curatorial process as follows: “The two installations that make up the exhibition Beyond Matter demonstrate the wide variety of artistic techniques that the graduates of the University of Delaware MFA program employ in their careers.  While many alumni work in the traditional media of painting, sculpture, and photography—finding evermore ways to make them fresh—others have charted new paths with mixed media installations as well as digital and computer art.  As I worked to separate Beyond Matter into two installations, I found that I was able to roughly divide the reason for my interest in the work of the eleven selected artists into two broad categories.  The works in the February installation are united in their conceptual focus; the works in the March show, by their interest in the beautiful.  All of the works in the exhibition, of course, do transcend this simple split, appealing to the human desire for intellectual stimulation while also offering an experience of the sublime.  But I feel that each installation presents works of art that are complementary; works that can be fruitfully considered in dialogue with one another.”

Diverse Paths: Mid-Atlantic MFA Graduate Student Work opens April 9
UD@Crane presents Diverse Paths: Mid-Atlantic MFA Graduate Student Work an exhibition that features the work of regional graduate students.  The exhibition opens Thursday, April 9, 2009 and concludes on Thursday, May 3, 2009.
Diverse Paths… is the result of a productive collaboration between University of Delaware studio art and art history graduate students.  Students from both departments worked together to organize, curate, and install the exhibition in an interdisciplinary cooperative effort.  The exhibition showcases the works of current MFA students from Penn State University, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Rutgers University, Tyler School of Art- Temple University, The University of the Arts, and University of Pennsylvania.
Themes explored address the tension between the interior, subjective dimension and the exterior, larger world.  While some works are executed with traditional artist’s materials, others incorporate found objects and installation.  The techniques and materials employed engage issues of identity and the desire for communication and interactivity.
Featured artists include: Mike Treffehn, Marie Rim, Erin M. Riley, Caitlin Magner, Joseph Lozano, Chris Lawrence, Erica Harney, Caroline Gilpin, Katie Dillon, Paul DeMuro, and Jessica Bottalico.
The curators are Jim Zeske, Katsi Ortiz, Jennifer Jones O’Neil, Shushana Muldowney, Claudia Torres Guillemard, Molly Fletcher, Kenny Delio, Meghan Read Constantinou, Cody Bloom, and LaTanya S. Autry.  Jennifer Jones O’Neil is the director of this exhibition.
UD@Crane is a two-story, 3,000 square foot space, which presents all practices of visual art, music, and literary and performing arts. UD’s establishment of a satellite arts campus at the Crane enhances regional visibility of our visual and performing arts departments..
