“Henceforth, here no longer exists; everything is now.” – Paul Virilio

In 2000 Paul Virilio was questioning the effects of the collapse of the physical into the virtual. An unprecedented compression of time occurring as a result of digital communications media, he said, has the power to “pollute our sensory ecology.” Today this compression has become our lived reality but has it actually resulted in the pollution of our senses? Compression comprises work from a group of Australian digital artists. The works respond to the tension in this relationship between real and virtual space and address the assumptions embedded in this binary opposition.
