Black Sun 2
This video projection was shown at the Thessaloniki Biennial of Contemporary Art (2009) in Greece, as well as his solo show at Burgos that just closed. Alex will install the projection at Times Square this spring.

Below is a short statement from Alex describing the piece:

Black Sun 2 is an attempt to remove the effect of destruction that follows a regular wrecking ball. The video can be projected on any public or private building. This one represents a wrecking ball bouncing strongly again and again as if it is going to “destroy” the building, rather, in my opinion, it is as if knocking on a door. This is an aspect of the work that also interests me: as you knock on the door you expect some one to open it. So the work reveals how my personal position is more interested in negotiation rather than using force as the only alternative. The movement of the pendulum alludes to the idea of time, which is also managed in many of my works. Nevertheless, I love how the piece starts aggressively and people are impatient, then as time goes by they become relieved with a charge of frustration since we are mostly accustomed to aggressiveness.

Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)
From March 6 – April 25, 20 Alex will have a solo show at SCAD titled The Rules of Play. The exhibition will showcase Alex’s interdisciplinary practice, featuring recent drawings, sculpture and video. The show will reference architectural design to create thought-provoking observations on the constructs of power in our ever-globalizing society.

Spring 2010, Arrechea will have a solo show at MagnanMetz Gallery, in Chelsea, New York.

Alex will also be part of a group show over the Summer 2010 at the Museum of Art and Design in New York. The exhibition will be curated by Lowery Sims.
