Artist and Author Susan M. Hess Combines Art ?and Poetry at Month-Long Philadelphia Exhibition.Proceeds of Exhibit will Benefit Local Non-Profit
The exhibition, entitled I’m Nobody: A Journey of Healing, Weaving Truth with Trust, will present twenty-four woven tapestries illustrating Emily Dickinson’s poetry, and follow the artist’s own journey toward healing. Her work clearly demonstrates the power of Dickinson’s language as the therapeutic process which enabled Hess to confront her own personal issues of childhood abuse.
Susan Hess is the author of I’m Nobody: A Journey of Healing, and has exhibited her tapestries throughout the Northeast. A Philadelphia native, she currently resides in Georgetown, Maine. Her exhibit will also feature a reproduction of Emily Dickinson’s sampler, the original of which is currently at Harvard University. The artist will be available during exhibit hours to discuss her powerful work.
The exhibition will run from June 3rd through June 21st at Crane Art, located at 1400 American Street in Philadelphia. A wine and cheese reception and book signing featuring the artist will be held on Sunday, June 7th from 2-5pm. Tickets are $25.
All proceeds from this exhibition will benefit the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance, an independent non-profit organization that promotes justice and healing for sexually abused children in Philadelphia through forensic interviewing and victim advocacy services.
